Prince 2 methodology for Project Managers

PRINCE2 (Projects IN Controlled Environments) is a project management method that provides a framework for effectively managing projects. It is a flexible and adaptable approach that can be applied to projects of any size or complexity.

  

What is PRINCE2 in Project Management?

     

PRINCE2 is a comprehensive project management method. It's based on seven principles, themes, and processes that provide a structure for managing projects:

  2. Learn from experience: It encourages the continuous improvement of project management practices by learning from past experiences.

  3. Define roles and responsibilities: It defines clear roles and responsibilities for all team members, including the project manager, the project board, and the team.

  4. Manage by stages: It divides the project into manageable stages, with defined deliverables and reviews at the end of each stage. This allows the team to monitor progress and make any necessary adjustments.

  5. Manage by exception: It gives the project board the authority to make decisions and manage the project, but requires that any deviations from the plan be escalated for review. This helps to ensure that the project stays on track and that resources are used efficiently.

  6. Focus on products: It emphasises the importance of clearly defined and documented products, as these provide a basis for planning, monitoring, and controlling the project.

  7. Tailor to suit the project environment: It recognises that no two projects are the same, and encourages project managers to tailor the approach to suit the specific needs and circumstances of the project.

Advantages and disadvantages of using PRINCE2 in project management:

 

Advantages:
