Project Managers are often known for their love of getting things done. They're used to working with deadlines, plans and overcoming problems as they arise. And let's be real, who doesn't love crossing things off a to-do list? But even the most task-oriented PMs can sometimes struggle to keep themselves and their teams motivated.

The key to motivation is having a sense of purpose, being persistent despite difficulties, and being resilient through setbacks. As a manager, your actions and words have a huge impact on how your team thinks and feels, and how persistent and resilient they are.

When it comes to managing a project, it's important to remember that managing the people is just as important as managing the project itself. You need to get your team's commitment to the project, build their confidence and coach them through difficulties. It's also crucial to be empathetic and role model helpful habits and resilient behaviours.

So, how do you do this?

Engage, Develop, Delegate and Connect!

Engage: Give your team a sense of purpose by setting and agreeing on meaningful goals, finding out what inspires them, and working with them to create a team purpose.

Develop: Build your team's competence and confidence by focusing on their strengths, giving positive feedback, scheduling 1-on-1's, and using the "do it and review it" approach to learn from situations.

Delegate: Give your team freedom and choice in how, when, and where they work, and delegate areas of responsibility with support.

Connect: Create a sense of belonging by fostering a positive team culture and building strong relationships with your team.

With these four steps in mind, you'll be well on your way to leading a motivated, persistent, and resilient team.
